With reference to my telegram of the 3rd March last and previous correspondence relative to the purchase by the Government, on behalf of the Admiralty, of the land known as Kowloon Marine Lot No. 35, I have the honour to inform you that the property in question has now been handed over to the Naval Authorities, who have repaid to this Government the total amount of the purchase money. I may add, however, that there is still a sum of $43,700 due from the Naval to the Colonial Authorities in order to extinguish the Colony's interest in Crown Rents, by which means the area will become the absolute property of the Admiralty. The amount has been arrived at in the usual manner, by capitalising the Crown Rent at 25 years purchase. The Commodore has informed me that this point has been referred to the Admiralty, from whom he has not yet received a reply.
